Southern Mallee Lucerne – Farming Smarter with Drone Technology

At Southern Mallee Lucerne, we’re committed to producing the highest-quality lucerne hay while leading the way with cutting-edge farming technology. One of the key innovations we’ve embraced is the use of agricultural drones to manage, monitor, and optimize our lucerne production.

DJI Agras T40 – Precision in the Sky

Our DJI Agras T40 drone handles both liquid spraying and granular spreading, with up to 40L/50kg payload capacity. It ensures precise, uniform application of fertilizers and crop treatments, reducing waste and protecting the environment. With its advanced radar and vision systems, it can safely navigate uneven terrain and complete automated missions with efficiency and accuracy.

DJI Enterprise Drone + RTK Mapping & NDVI Analysis

We also deploy a DJI Enterprise drone with RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) accuracy to map our lucerne paddocks. This technology allows us to:

  • Generate NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) maps that reveal crop health and biomass variations.
  • Pinpoint low-growing or stressed areas with unmatched precision.
  • Develop automated flight paths for the T40, ensuring fertilizer or spray is applied only where needed.
  • Optimize inputs to deliver the right nutrients at the right time.
Why This Matters for You?

By combining NDVI mappinghigh-resolution field data, and precision drone application, we can:

  • Produce lucerne hay that is leafier, greener, and nutritionally superior.
  • Improve consistency and quality from paddock to bale.
  • Minimize input use, ensuring sustainable and environmentally responsible farming.

At Southern Mallee Lucerne, technology isn’t just about efficiency—it’s about delivering the very best hay to your horses and livestock
